Frame Conservation and Restoration
Many treatments may apply to the conservation of frames. Preservation treatments for frames often combine elements of both conservation and restoration. Treatments can include cleaning, consolidating and re-adhering unstable areas of a surface, large reconstruction projects and structural stabilization. We aim to do the least invasive treatment and we will work with a client to determine the most suitable treatment plan.We believe our approach to frame conservation is unique in that we incorporate our training and experience with painting conservation to reach a solution that is beneficial to both the painting and the frame as a working unit. The structure and stability of a frame contributes to the safety of the artwork when it is correctly implemented. We do not just ensure that a frame is structurally sound in itself. We make sure that the frame and the artwork are stable and work together.
Bynon Art Services offers conservation services for historic objects. We have training and experience with a wide range of materials and carry out work to decorative arts, social history, and archaeological objects. We specialize in the examination and treatment of metal objects; and painted and gilded wooden artifacts such as polychrome sculpture.
Assessments, Condition Surveys and Workshops
Bynon Art Services can assess the condition of artwork for permanent collections, traveling shows or insurance claims. We understand that preserving the historic and cultural value of works of art presents a range of challenges to owners and collection managers. Preventive conservation is our aim as its implementation not only enhances the condition of artifacts and collections but it may also reduce the necessity of invasive and costly conservation treatments.
We also offer workshops to historic societies and museums who wish to train staff on conservation related topics such as identifying potential condition issues for collections, proper handling and packing techniques for artifacts.
